Estonia 0-0 Iceland: Hosts hold Nations League leaders to goalless draw in Tallinn

Tallinn, Estonia — Estonia held group leaders Iceland to a 0-0 draw at the A. Le Coq Arena on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, in a tightly contested UEFA Nations League Group C4 encounter.

Neither side could find the breakthrough despite chances at both ends, leaving Iceland top of the group and Estonia still firmly in contention for promotion to League B.

Estonia frustrate Iceland

The hosts started positively and looked to build on their 1-0 victory over Luxembourg three days earlier.

Estonia defended with discipline throughout the first half, limiting Iceland's opportunities as the visitors struggled to create clear openings. The two sides went into the interval level at 0-0.

Iceland continued to push after the restart, but Estonia goalkeeper Karl Hein produced several important saves to keep the visitors at bay.

Paskotši comes close for Estonia

Estonia also threatened on the counter-attack and eventually thought they had created the opening needed to break the deadlock.

Maksim Paskotši tested Iceland's defence and goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson, while Estonia continued to look dangerous from set pieces and quick transitions.

The hosts' defensive organisation, however, remained the defining feature of the contest.

Iceland unable to find a winner

Iceland increased the pressure during the final stages.

Gylfi Sigurðsson, Andri Guðjohnsen and other Iceland attackers tried to find a way through, but Estonia repeatedly blocked efforts and protected their clean sheet.

Hein made another crucial save in the closing minutes before the final whistle confirmed a share of the points.

Iceland remain top of Group C4

The draw leaves Iceland top of Group C4, while Estonia remain second.

Iceland had entered the match with seven points after three games, while Estonia had five. Estonia's latest point therefore keeps the promotion race alive with two matchdays remaining.

Estonia's recent run has been particularly encouraging. After opening the campaign with draws against Iceland and Bulgaria, they defeated Luxembourg 1-0 before Tuesday's goalless draw.

Promotion race remains open

The top team in the group will earn automatic promotion to League B, meaning both Iceland and Estonia remain in contention.

For Estonia, holding Iceland to a clean sheet represents another valuable result as Jürgen Henn's side continue their push for promotion.

Iceland, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have converted their pressure into a victory, but remain in control of the group heading into the final stages of the league phase.
