Mikel Arteta signs new Arsenal contract to remain at Premier League champions until 2030

London, England — Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030, extending the Spaniard's reign after he guided the club to its first Premier League title in 22 years.

Arsenal confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, with Arteta's previous contract having been due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season. The new deal represents a major vote of confidence in the 44-year-old following the most successful campaign of his managerial career.

Arteta commits his future to Arsenal

Arteta, who took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, said he felt privileged to continue his journey with the club.

“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said.

He added that the relationship between himself, the club and its supporters had already produced special memories, but insisted that “this is only the beginning” of what Arsenal can achieve.

Premier League title ends 22-year wait

Arteta's new contract comes after he finally delivered the Premier League title that Arsenal had been waiting for since the 2003/04 season.

The Spaniard had previously taken the Gunners to three consecutive second-place finishes before ending that long wait for the championship last season.

His tenure has also included an FA Cup triumph in his first season, while Arsenal have re-established themselves as regular contenders in English and European football.

Champions League final appearance

Arsenal's progress under Arteta was underlined by their run to the Champions League final last season, their first appearance in the competition's showpiece match in two decades.

The Gunners ultimately lost the final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, but the achievement represented another significant step in the club's return to Europe's elite.

Arteta targets a new era of success

The contract extension is designed to provide continuity as Arsenal attempt to build on their breakthrough Premier League triumph.

Arsenal co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke praised Arteta's contribution since his return to the club in 2019 and said they were excited about what lies ahead.

The club's coaching staff have also received extended contracts, reinforcing Arsenal's commitment to maintaining the structure that has helped transform the team under Arteta.

Arsenal prepare for Premier League return

The Gunners currently sit second in the Premier League, three points behind Manchester City, following a surprise 3-0 defeat by Brighton before the international break.

Arteta's side will return to league action on Saturday when they host Leeds United, giving the newly extended manager an immediate opportunity to begin the next chapter of his Arsenal tenure with a victory.

With his future now secured until 2030, Arteta will be tasked with turning Arsenal's recent resurgence into a sustained period of domestic and European success.
