Botswana U23 Beat Seychelles and Draw Guinea in the Next Round

GABORONE, Botswana — Botswana under-23s beat Seychelles 2-1 at the National Stadium on Tuesday and went through in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on a 4-2 aggregate.

Losika Ratshukudu opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Lorenzo levelled for Seychelles in the 42nd. Tlotlo Keipidile restored the lead in the 56th, and Botswana held it to the whistle. The second leg was enough. The Young Zebras had already won the first leg 2-1, and the tie was never in serious doubt after Keipidile’s goal.

The prize is a meeting with Guinea in the next round of the road to Egypt 2027. Guinea are a step up from Seychelles. Botswana have at least arrived there with a two-goal cushion from this tie and goals from Ratshukudu and Keipidile in front of their own crowd.

Seychelles scored in both legs and still leave the competition. Two away goals were not enough once Botswana found a second in Gaborone. The first-round pairing is done.

Botswana’s next opponents are already named. Guinea will test whether a side that managed Seychelles over two legs can do the same against a West African qualifier with a deeper pool. For tonight, the National Stadium has a 2-1 win, a 4-2 aggregate, and a place in the next round.
