Zambia recorded the biggest victory of the day by thrashing Egypt 6-0. Debutants
Malawi produced one of the shocks of the tournament so far, coming from behind to defeat defending champions
Nigeria 3-2.
Ghana and Cameroon also opened their campaigns with victories, beating Cape Verde and Mali respectively. The results set up an intriguing continuation of the group stage as teams battle for places in the knockout rounds.
