Getafe — Brighton and Hove Albion secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Getafe in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, 5 November 2026, with Malick Yalcouyé scoring the decisive goal.
The victory at the Estadio Coliseum gave Fabian Hürzeler's side three important points and moved them into the top eight automatic qualification places in the league-phase standings.
Brighton started brightly and created early opportunities through Georginio Rutter and Jack Hinshelwood, but Getafe goalkeeper David Soria was on hand to keep the visitors at bay.
The hosts gradually settled into the contest and threatened through Iván Azón, whose effort was brilliantly stopped by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
Jaouen Hadjam came close to opening the scoring for Brighton before half-time when his effort struck the post with only Soria to beat. Yalcouyé's follow-up was subsequently cleared off the line by Sebastián Boselli.
Hadjam remained a threat after the break and struck the crossbar with another attempt from distance.
However, Brighton eventually found the breakthrough in the 64th minute. Pascal Groß delivered a cross into the penalty area, Costinha headed the ball back across goal, and Yalcouyé rose to direct his header into the net off the underside of the crossbar.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage when substitute Ibrahim Osman missed a close-range opportunity following a delivery from Diego Gómez.
Getafe pushed for an equaliser during the closing stages, but Brighton defended their advantage to secure their first Conference League victory since their previous European outing.
