Super Eagles Leave Nizhny Novgorod for Moscow Straight after the Draw

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia — The Super Eagles did not stay the night. Players and officials left for Moscow immediately after Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Russia.

Kelechi Iheanacho had put Nigeria ahead in the 10th minute at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Russia scored three times before the interval and led 3-1 at the break. Peter Edokpolor pulled one back in the 78th minute. Akor Adams equalised in the dying moments.

The team’s media officer confirmed the movement to the press. “Entire Nigerian contingent leaving Nizhny Novgorod for Moscow immediately. Players and officials will thereafter depart Moscow to their different bases.” Coach Eric Chelle had already done his post-match press conference.

The friendly was part of Chelle’s look at a squad missing several Europe-based players. Russia had beaten Iran 2-0 and Namibia 6-0 in the same window. Nigeria took the lead, lost it, and took a point back with two second-half goals.

The fightback is the part the camp will keep. The three goals conceded before half-time are the part the coaching staff still have to fix. From Moscow, the delegation splits for club bases. The next competitive date is the AFCON 2027 qualifier against Tanzania on 11 November.
