Mohod defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin 6-5 in a dramatic final, winning the deciding shoot-off 10-8 after the match finished level at 5-5.
Historic gold for India
The victory made Mohod the first Indian recurve archer to win an individual Asian Games gold medal.
The teenager also became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve medal at the Asian Games, ending a long wait for India in the event.
Mohod fell 3-1 behind in the final but fought back to level the contest before forcing the shoot-off. With the gold on the line, she produced a perfect 10 while Oh could only manage an eight.
Remarkable route to the final
Mohod's path to the title included victories over some of the leading names in world archery.
She defeated reigning world champion Kang Chae-young of South Korea 6-4 in the quarter-finals before overcoming China’s Zhu Jingyi 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Her semi-final victory also secured one of the available qualification quota places for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The quota belongs to India rather than to Mohod personally.
Third medal at the Asian Games
The individual gold is Mohod’s third medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
She had previously won gold alongside Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma in the women’s recurve team event, helping India defeat South Korea in the final.
Mohod also partnered Dhiraj Bommadevara to a silver medal in the mixed recurve team event.
At just 17, Mohod has therefore collected two gold medals and one silver at her first Asian Games.
