Enyimba roar back as Rangers go top in Wednesday's NPFL action

Enyimba recorded their first victory of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season in emphatic fashion on Wednesday, while defending champions Rangers International moved to the top of the table after a 1–0 away win over Warri Wolves.

Four rearranged Matchday 2 fixtures were played across the country, with the other two matches ending in draws. Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City played out a goalless Lagos derby, while Katsina United and Rivers United shared the points in a 1–1 draw.

Enyimba 4–2 Shooting Stars

Enyimba produced their most impressive performance of the young season as they defeated Shooting Stars 4–2 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Richard Ezinna opened the scoring in the seventh minute after Enyimba won possession through a high press.

Damian Chibueze Ezeifule doubled the advantage in the 29th minute with a long-range effort before Idris Abubakar added a third nine minutes before half-time.

The hosts continued their dominance after the break, with Ifeanyi Ihemekwele making it 4–0 in the 49th minute.

Shooting Stars mounted a late fightback through Mustapha Adams Agba’a in the 76th minute and Johnmark Aule in stoppage time, but Enyimba held on for a convincing victory.

Warri Wolves 0–1 Rangers

Rangers International climbed to the top of the NPFL standings after edging Warri Wolves 1–0 at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro.

Godwin Obaje scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the first half as the defending champions secured another important away victory.

The result moved Rangers to the summit, while Warri Wolves were unable to build on their previous league victory.

Sporting Lagos 0–0 Ikorodu City

The Lagos derby between Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City ended without a goal at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

Both sides had to settle for a point after failing to find a breakthrough in a closely contested encounter.

The draw extended the wait for a victory for both teams in the rearranged fixture.

Katsina United 1–1 Rivers United

Rivers United maintained second place after drawing 1–1 away to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

The first half ended goalless before the match burst into life shortly after the restart.

Samson Olasupo put Rivers United ahead in the 47th minute, but Katsina United responded almost immediately, with Sani Mubarak equalising three minutes later.

Neither side could find a winning goal as the points were shared.

Wednesday's NPFL results

• Enyimba: 4–2 Shooting Stars
• Warri Wolves: 0–1 Rangers International
• Sporting Lagos: 0–0 Ikorodu City
• Katsina United: 1–1 Rivers United

The NPFL now turns its attention to Matchday 7 this weekend, with Rangers looking to maintain their position at the top of the table and the other clubs seeking valuable points in the early stages of the campaign.
