NYON, Switzerland — UEFA has unveiled its official Team of the Week for the opening round of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase, presented by Hyundai.
The selection rewards the standout individual performances from a high-scoring Matchday 1 that produced 69 goals across the 18 fixtures.
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) takes the gloves after helping the Spanish champions secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Defence
The back line features Archie Brown of Fenerbahçe SK on the left, Pau Torres of Aston Villa, Marc Bartra of Real Betis and Sergiño Dest of PSV Eindhoven. The quartet were chosen for their composure and contribution in matches that delivered positive results for their respective clubs.
Midfield
Martín Baturina of Como and Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard occupy the central roles. Ødegaard scored the decisive goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win away at Napoli, while Baturina impressed as the Italian newcomers stunned RB Leipzig 4-1 on their Champions League debut.
Attack
The forward line is packed with quality. Ferran Torres of Paris Saint-Germain is selected after a clinical display in PSG’s 6-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava. Ermedin Demirović of Stuttgart earned his place with a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Viking. Raphinha of Barcelona and Michael Olise of Bayern Munich complete the attack following strong contributions in their sides’ emphatic victories — Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Feyenoord and Bayern’s 5-0 demolition of Bodø/Glimt.
The Team of the Week highlights the breadth of talent on show in the new league-phase format. Several players produced match-winning displays, with hat-tricks and multi-goal contributions featuring prominently across the opening fixtures.
UEFA’s selection is compiled by the organisation’s technical observers and data analysts, recognising those who had the greatest impact on their teams’ results during Matchday 1.
