Peter Lwasa Joins Interclube as First Ugandan to Play in Angola’s Girabola

LUANDA, Angola — Former Gor Mahia forward Peter Lwasa has signed for Angolan side Grupo Desportivo Interclube, becoming the first Ugandan player to feature in the country’s top-flight Girabola.

The Ugandan international has agreed a one-year deal with the two-time Angolan champions.

Lwasa spent two seasons with Gor Mahia between 2021 and 2022/23, helping K’Ogalo reclaim the Kenyan Premier League title. He scored a memorable goal against Nairobi City Stars on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign as the club secured its 20th league crown.

Before joining Gor Mahia from Kariobangi Sharks, the attacker also turned out for Sofapaka in Kenya. His career has since taken him to KCCA FC and URA FC in Uganda, as well as Tanzanian clubs Kagera Sugar and Pamba Jiji FC.

Born on 5 November 1998, Lwasa is a versatile forward who can operate as a central striker or on either flank. At 27, he now takes his experience to Luanda, where Interclube play at the Estádio 22 de Junho.

Interclube, founded in 1976, won the Girabola in 2007 and 2010 and have also lifted the Taça de Angola and Supertaça on multiple occasions. The club reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2011 and remains one of Angola’s historic multi-sport institutions.

Lwasa’s move marks a new chapter after spells in East Africa. His arrival gives Interclube another attacking option as they look to climb the Girabola table and reassert themselves among Angola’s leading clubs.

The signing also opens a new pathway for Ugandan talent in the Angolan league, with Lwasa becoming the first player from the country to compete at Girabola level.
