The Zimbabwean striker was rewarded after scoring five goals in four matches for AmaZulu during the month, helping establish himself as one of the standout performers at the start of the 2026/27 campaign. The Premier Soccer League confirmed that a panel of media-accredited judges selected Ngwenya as the first Player of the Month winner of the new season.
Ngwenya's goalscoring form was particularly impressive considering the different situations in which he found the net.
He opened his August league campaign by converting a penalty in AmaZulu's 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC before scoring twice against Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 quarter-final.
The 23-year-old then continued his remarkable run by scoring against Orlando Pirates and Siwelele FC, taking his tally to five goals in four appearances at that stage of the campaign.
His performances have made him an increasingly important figure for AmaZulu, with the club's official profile describing the Zimbabwean as an out-and-out centre-forward and highlighting his goalscoring ability.

• Goals: 5
• Assists: 1
• Club: AmaZulu FC

The award comes after Ngwenya finished the previous league campaign as AmaZulu's leading scorer, scoring six goals in 16 Premiership appearances according to statistical records.
His rapid start to the new campaign has therefore represented another step forward for the striker, who joined AmaZulu after establishing himself in Zimbabwean football with FC Platinum.
Ngwenya's individual recognition also caps an impressive month for AmaZulu, while fellow Betway Premiership award winners Abdeslam Ouaddou and Brayan León were named Coach of the Month and Goal of the Month respectively.
With his confidence growing and his finishing proving decisive, Ngwenya will now be expected to maintain his scoring form as AmaZulu pursue their ambitions in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
