Oura Strike Gives Simba 1-0 First-Leg Lead Over Mighty Wanderers

LILONGWE, Malawi — Anicet Oura scored the only goal as Simba SC beat Mighty Wanderers 1-0 in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League on Sunday.

The Ivorian forward finished in the 65th minute at the Bingu National Stadium after a long ball from goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali. The first half had been goalless. Simba take an away goal and a one-goal lead to Dar es Salaam for next Sunday’s second leg at the Azam Complex.

Mighty Wanderers were playing their first Champions League match at Bingu since CAF provisionally certified the ground for international fixtures. They created little after the interval and now need a win in Tanzania to stay in the competition. A draw in Dar es Salaam would send Simba through.

The Tanzanian champions have started their domestic season without a league defeat and treated this tie as a professional away assignment rather than a spectacle. Oura’s finish was the difference. Wanderers must score at least once next week without conceding two.

Sunday’s result sits with other first-leg away wins this round. Al Hilal won in Burundi; Tengueth won in Guinea-Bissau. Simba’s margin is slimmer, but the away goal is the asset Wanderers will fear most.

The return is still live. One Wanderers goal changes the arithmetic. Until then, Simba hold the tie after a controlled night in Lilongwe.
