The pair finished with a total of 34 in the medal round, breaking the previous Asian record of 30 set by Qatar earlier this year. Qatar took silver with 32, while China secured bronze with 23.
This was Neeru’s second gold of the Games. A day earlier she had made history by becoming the first Indian to win the trap women’s individual title. For Chenai, it marked his third Asian Games medal after trap men’s team gold and individual bronze at Hangzhou 2022.
The Indian duo had finished fourth in qualification with a score of 136 and only just secured a place in the four-team final. They started the gold-medal match poorly, with Neeru missing three of her first five shots and Chenai one, leaving them on six after the opening series.
They responded strongly, shooting the next two series perfectly to establish a two-point lead over Qatar. Although both missed one shot each in the final series, the gold and the new Asian record were already secure.
The victory continues India’s strong showing in shooting at the Games and underlines the growing depth of the country’s trap contingent on the continental stage.
