Sebastian Berhalter opened the scoring after Hall’s clever dummy, before Hall himself equalised and then became the youngest US player to score in his first two appearances. Chris Richards headed home a third, and 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward Albert slammed in a fourth in stoppage time to become the youngest-ever US goalscorer, surpassing Christian Pulisic.
Chile had briefly led through goals from Diego Ulloa and Maximiliano Gutierrez either side of half-time.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino fielded his youngest line-up yet, with an average age of 23 years and 25 days. “They’re teenagers, but they are mature enough to compete,” Pochettino said. “When we call these kids, we are sure that they are going to perform. It’s only a matter of time.”
