England 1-2 Brazil: Gisele strikes late as Brazil top U-20 Women’s World Cup Group B

Bielsko-Biała, Poland: Brazil produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat England 2–1 and finish top of Group B at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Friday.

The Young Lionesses looked on course for a major victory after Lily Dent gave them the lead in the first half, but Brazil responded after the break with a penalty from Clarinha before Gisele scored a stunning stoppage-time winner to preserve Brazil’s perfect record in the group stage.

• England: Lily Dent 31'

• Brazil: Clarinha 76' (pen), Gisele 90+5'

England started brightly and created a number of promising situations before finally breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute.

Lola Brown and Rachel Maltby combined effectively down the left, with Maltby delivering a low cross towards the far post. Dent arrived at the right moment and finished first time to put England ahead.

Brazil struggled to find a response before half-time, but their performance changed significantly after the interval. Head coach Camilla Orlando introduced Evelin, Kaylane and Vitorinha, giving Brazil greater attacking intensity and helping them take control of the game.

The pressure eventually told when Brendha was brought down inside the England penalty area by Chloe Hylton. After a VAR review, the referee awarded Brazil a penalty.

Clarinha stepped up and made no mistake, sending her spot-kick into the top-right corner in the 76th minute to restore parity.

With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Brazil produced one final moment of quality.

Gisele combined with Evelin on the left before driving into the England penalty area. She beat her marker and, from a difficult angle, fired a powerful low shot across goal and into the net in the fifth minute of added time.

The late winner completed Brazil’s three victories from three matches and secured top spot in Group B. Brazil had already booked their place in the knockout stages before the match and now advance with a perfect nine-point record.

England, despite the defeat, also secured qualification for the Round of 16. The Young Lionesses finished level with Canada on points, head-to-head record, goal difference and goals scored, but progressed in second place because of their superior Team Conduct Score.

Brazil will face one of the best third-placed teams from Groups A, C or D in the Round of 16, while England will meet the second-placed team from Group F.

Visa Player of the Match: Ana Beatriz (Brazil).
