DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Coastal Union recorded their first victory of the 2026/27 Tanzania Premier League season with a 2-1 win away to Polisi Tanzania on Sunday.
The result lifts the Tanga club off the foot of the early table after a difficult opening month. Coastal Union had taken only one point from their first four matches, losing to Mashujaa, Young Africans and Simba, and drawing with Kitayosce. Sunday’s win in Matchweek 5 changes that sequence.
Polisi Tanzania had started the campaign more steadily — two wins, a draw and a defeat from four games — and were expected to control a home fixture against a side still searching for a first three points. Instead they conceded twice and could manage only a consolation.
The NBC Premier League remains a two-horse race at the top. Young Africans and Simba are both unbeaten after five matches. Azam sit third. For clubs in the middle and lower half, afternoons such as this decide whether the season becomes a scrap or a recovery.
Coastal Union’s next listed home assignment is against JKT Tanzania. Polisi Tanzania must reset after dropping points they would have targeted before kick-off. One result does not rewrite Coastal Union’s start, but a first win away from home is the foothold they needed.
Sunday belonged to the visitors. In a league already stretching between the Dar giants and the rest, Coastal Union have given themselves something to take into the next round of fixtures.
