TRABZON, Türkiye — Trabzonspor swept aside Gençlerbirliği 5-0 in the Süper Lig at Papara Park on Sunday, with Paul Onuachu scoring twice and Mohamed Salah converting a first-half penalty.
Ernest Muçi scored the fourth in the 59th minute. Substitute Franculino Djú completed the scoring in the 78th minute. Gençlerbirliği offered little after the early yellow card to O. Diabaté and rarely threatened André Onana.
The result was Trabzonspor’s most emphatic of the young season and lifted the mood at Papara Park after a mixed start. Onuachu now has a brace to his name in a single afternoon; Salah’s penalty was his contribution from the right of a 4-2-3-1 under Hüseyin Çimşir.
Gençlerbirliği arrived in better league position than the hosts and left with a heavy defeat. Their goalkeeper İrfan Can Eğribayat was beaten five times as the visitors’ midfield lost control after the opening quarter of an hour.
Sunday belonged to Trabzonspor’s front line. Five goals, a clean sheet and a statement home win. Gençlerbirliği must recover quickly; the Black Sea side have given their supporters a result to carry into the next round of fixtures.
