Madrid, Spain: Atlético Madrid produced an emphatic performance at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Wednesday night, defeating Osasuna 4-0 to strengthen their position near the top of the LaLiga table.

Diego Simeone’s side controlled the contest for long periods and eventually turned their dominance into four goals, with Jonathan David, Kang-in Lee, Robin Le Normand and Álex Baena all finding the net.

Atlético Madrid: Jonathan David 24', Kang-in Lee 54', Robin Le Normand 62', Álex Baena 82'
Osasuna: No goals

Jonathan David opened the scoring in the 24th minute after reacting quickest to his own effort following an excellent save from Osasuna goalkeeper Aitor Fernández. The Canadian striker had already scored against Real Sociedad in Atlético’s previous league game and continued his promising start to life in Madrid.

Atlético went into half-time with a 1-0 advantage, but they increased the pressure after the interval.

Kang-in Lee doubled the lead in the 54th minute, giving Osasuna an even greater challenge as Atlético began to take control of the game.

Eight minutes later, Robin Le Normand made it 3-0, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Atlético continued to attack despite their comfortable advantage and were rewarded again late in the game.

Álex Baena completed the scoring in the 82nd minute, producing a fourth goal to seal Atlético’s biggest league victory of the campaign to that point. Atlético’s official report described Baena’s goal as a superb finish following an impressive attacking move.

The victory lifted Atlético Madrid to 13 points from six LaLiga matches, with four wins, one draw and one defeat. LaLiga’s official results record confirms the 4-0 victory, while Atlético’s previous league fixture had ended in a 3-0 win away to Real Sociedad.

The result also continued Atlético’s strong run in front of goal after their 3-0 victory in San Sebastián. Simeone’s team have now scored seven goals across their last two LaLiga matches without conceding.

For Osasuna, the defeat leaves them with seven points from their opening six league matches.

Atlético will now look to build on the result as the LaLiga season continues, with their attacking options providing Simeone with another encouraging display at the Metropolitano.
