OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies produced a dominant performance to defeat Dynamique FC of Benin 4-1 in the second semi-final of the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers on Wednesday evening.
The emphatic victory at the Stade du 4 Août books Ampem Darkoa a place in the final, where they will face Nigeria’s Edo Queens in a rematch of their group-stage encounter.
Milot Abena Pokuaa opened the scoring in the 17th minute, giving the Nana Mma an early advantage and setting the tone for a one-sided first half. Rebecca Assemani doubled the lead before Gloria Adomako added a third goal to put Ampem Darkoa firmly in control at the interval.
Dynamique FC pulled a goal back shortly after the restart in the 47th minute, offering brief hope of a recovery. However, Pokuaa restored the three-goal cushion in the 66th minute to complete her brace and seal a convincing 4-1 win. Captain Victoria Banful later missed a late penalty, but it had no bearing on the outcome.
Ampem Darkoa entered the semi-final as clear favourites after an unbeaten group-stage campaign. The Ghanaian side won all three of their Group B matches, scoring seven goals and conceding just once. Their results included a 1-0 victory over defending champions ASEC Mimosas, a 4-0 thrashing of AS GNN, and a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win against Edo Queens in the final group fixture.
Dynamique FC, making their debut in the competition, struggled throughout the group stage. The Beninese side collected only one point from two matches and failed to score until their semi-final consolation goal.
The final will be a repeat of the recent group meeting between Ampem Darkoa and Edo Queens. On that occasion the Ghanaian champions overturned an early deficit to claim a 2-1 victory. Edo Queens reached the final in emphatic fashion themselves, thrashing hosts USFA 5-1 in the other semi-final.
Victory in the final will determine the WAFU Zone B representative at the main CAF Women’s Champions League tournament later in the year. Ampem Darkoa, winners of the regional competition in 2023, will be aiming to secure another continental qualification, while Edo Queens will look to avenge their group-stage defeat and claim the regional title.
The showpiece is scheduled for later this week in Ouagadougou, promising another high-stakes contest between two of West Africa’s strongest women’s club sides.
