Valarie Sion Claims Women’s Discus Title at ISTAF Berlin

BERLIN, Germany — American thrower Valarie Sion secured victory in the women’s discus throw at the ISTAF Berlin meeting on Sunday with a commanding opening effort.

Sion produced a first-round throw of 67.89 metres, a mark that proved sufficient to take the top spot and hold off the challenge of the rest of the field.

Germany’s Leia Braunagel finished second with a best throw of 64.60 metres, while Shanice Craft claimed third place with a distance of 61.61 metres.

Sion’s early statement set the tone for the competition, as none of her rivals were able to match the distance she achieved on her opening attempt. The result continues a strong showing for American athletes at the Berlin meeting, following earlier success on the track.

The ISTAF Berlin remains one of the premier one-day athletics events on the European calendar, regularly attracting a high-quality international field across throwing, jumping and running disciplines. Sion’s winning mark of 67.89 metres underlines her competitive form heading into the latter stages of the outdoor season.

Further field events are scheduled to take place as the meeting continues through the afternoon and evening.
