Making his official return after rejoining the Chilli Boys earlier this summer following a five-month absence, the Nigerian shot-stopper made six vital saves and kept a clean sheet to deny the hosts at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
Nwabali was particularly impressive in the second half, twice denying Ronaldo Van Neel and producing a sharp point-blank stop in stoppage time to keep out substitute Sabelo Sithole. Four of his six saves came from inside the box as Golden Arrows pressed for a winner.
The 30-year-old’s return to regular football marks a significant step after he mutually terminated his previous contract with Chippa United in February. He spent several months without competitive action before rejoining the Eastern Cape club in July ahead of the new season.
His performance on Saturday provided an immediate boost for coach Brandon Truter, who begins his first full campaign in charge. Nwabali’s leadership and shot-stopping proved decisive in helping Chippa United claim a hard-earned point on the road.
The result leaves both sides with one point from the opening matchday of the new Betway Premiership season.
