Neither side could break the deadlock in a tightly contested encounter that saw clear chances at both ends. Golden Arrows, known as Abafana Besthende, created the better opportunities but were denied by a series of strong saves from Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
The Nigerian international was named Man of the Match after producing several key interventions, including a point-blank stop late in stoppage time to deny substitute Sabelo Sithole. Earlier, he had saved a snap shot from new signing Ronaldo Van Neel just before half-time.
Golden Arrows came closest to scoring when Thokozani Khumalo’s curling effort struck the top of the crossbar early in the second half. Chippa United also threatened, with Justic Figuareido firing over from a promising position in the first half.
Both clubs entered the new campaign under fresh coaching leadership. Golden Arrows appointed Pitso Dladla following the departure of Manqoba Mngqithi, while Chippa United began the full tenure of Brandon Truter, who had taken interim charge towards the end of last season.
The result leaves both sides with one point from their opening match on the first weekend of the new Premiership season.
