KUMASI, Ghana — Asante Kotoko have completed the re-signing of midfielder Richard Boadu, with the former club captain returning to the Porcupine Warriors on a two-year contract.
The move marks a significant homecoming for the 28-year-old, who previously enjoyed a successful spell at the club between 2021 and 2023.
Career Path
Boadu began his professional journey in Ghana with lower-tier sides before joining Medeama SC in 2018. He spent three seasons with the Tarkwa-based club, making over 40 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and establishing himself as a reliable central midfielder.
In September 2021, he completed a move to Asante Kotoko. During his first stint with the Porcupine Warriors, Boadu became an important figure in midfield, helped the club secure the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title, and was later appointed club captain. He made more than 60 appearances across all competitions during that period, including matches in the CAF Champions League.
In July 2023, Boadu left Kotoko to join Libyan side Al-Ahly Benghazi. He later featured for Al Tahaddy in the Libyan Premier League and had a spell with Tunisian club Club Africain, which included a loan return to Libya. After becoming a free agent, he has now completed his return to Asante Kotoko.
Return to Familiar Surroundings
Boadu’s return brings experience, leadership and familiarity to the Kotoko midfield. Having previously captained the side and contributed to a league title win, he arrives with a clear understanding of the club’s culture and the expectations that come with wearing the red and white jersey.
The two-year deal provides both the player and the club with stability as Kotoko prepare for the new Ghana Premier League season and any potential continental commitments.
Looking Ahead
For Boadu, the move represents an opportunity to reignite his career at the club where he previously enjoyed success. For Asante Kotoko, the re-signing of a former captain adds proven quality and leadership to the squad.
Supporters will be eager to see how quickly the midfielder settles back into life at the club and what impact he can make on the pitch as the new campaign approaches.
