On Friday evening, Paris Saint-Germain once again showed late resilience. Trailing 2-0 at Lille, the champions fought back through Vitinha and a stoppage-time header from captain Marquinhos to snatch a 2-2 draw. It means Luis Enrique’s side have drawn both of their opening fixtures and sit on just two points.
Saturday’s programme produced several tightly contested matches. Strasbourg came from behind to defeat Lens 2-1, with Gessime Yassine scoring both goals for the hosts after Florian Thauvin had given Lens the lead from the penalty spot. Angers were clinical on the road, beating Auxerre 3-1, while Troyes continued their solid start with a 2-1 win at Lorient.
Brest and Toulouse shared the points in a 2-2 draw, and Lyon needed a late equaliser from Loïs Openda to rescue a 1-1 result against Le Havre.
Sunday belonged to the big results. Paris FC produced an impressive 3-0 home win over Nice, while Rennes edged a five-goal thriller against Le Mans 3-2, with Estéban Lepaul scoring twice, including a dramatic late penalty. The day ended with Monaco’s comfortable victory over Marseille, underlining their early credentials.
The results leave Monaco clear at the summit. Paris FC, Lille, Lyon, Rennes and Troyes all sit on four points in a tightly packed chasing pack. Reigning champions PSG remain mid-table after two draws, while Auxerre are still searching for their first point of the campaign.
The second matchday confirmed that the new Ligue 1 season is already highly competitive, with several sides showing they can challenge the established order.
