La Liga: Atlético Madrid Cruise Past Sevilla as Levante Thrash Betis

MADRID, Spain — Atlético Madrid maintained their strong start to the 2026/27 La Liga season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Sevilla on Saturday evening, while Levante produced a high-scoring upset by defeating Real Betis 5-2.

At the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Atlético took control early. Álex Baena opened the scoring in the fourth minute and added a second before half-time in the 33rd minute. Ademola Lookman also found the net in the 26th minute to put the visitors 3-0 up. Miguel Sierra pulled one back for Sevilla in the 66th minute, but Diego Simeone’s side held firm to secure all three points and remain near the top of the table.

In Valencia, Levante dismantled Real Betis in an entertaining encounter. Adrián de la Fuente, Enzo Bardeli, a brace from Roger Brugué and a late goal from Jon Ander Olasagasti completed the scoring for the home side. Marc Bartra and Rodrigo Riquelme replied for Betis, but they were unable to prevent a heavy defeat.

Real Sociedad also claimed a valuable home win, beating Espanyol 2-1 at the Reale Arena. Ander Barrenetxea scored early and Orri Óskarsson added the second after the break, with Roberto Fernández netting a consolation for the visitors.

The results leave Atlético Madrid and Alavés as early contenders at the summit of the table on seven points each. Real Madrid and Barcelona, who both play later this weekend, remain well placed after strong openings to the campaign.

Sunday’s fixtures include Real Madrid against Málaga, Deportivo La Coruña versus Valencia, and Celta Vigo hosting Athletic Bilbao.
