Jackline Chomba Named Player of the Match as ZESCO Ndola Girls Reach Final

GABORONE, Botswana — Defender Jackline Chomba has been named Player of the Match after delivering a standout performance in ZESCO Ndola Girls’ 2-1 semi-final victory over Malawi’s Silver Strikers.

The award recognises Chomba’s impressive display at the heart of the Zambian defence as the champions secured a place in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers for the second consecutive year.

Defensive Masterclass

Chomba played a pivotal role in helping ZESCO protect their early lead. Penelope Mulubwa and Charity Mubanga had put the Ndola side 2-0 up inside the opening 17 minutes, but Silver Strikers responded through Carol Mathyola in the 63rd minute and continued to press for an equaliser.

The Zambian defender remained composed under pressure, organising the backline and making key interventions to ensure ZESCO held on for a hard-fought victory. Her leadership and consistency were central to the team’s ability to manage the second half and book their place in the final.

Back-to-Back Final Appearances

ZESCO Ndola Girls reached the final on their debut in 2025, only to lose to Gaborone United on penalties. Chomba’s performance in this year’s semi-final has helped the club return to the decisive match, where they will face either Mamelodi Sundowns or hosts Gaborone United.

The Player of the Match recognition underscores Chomba’s growing importance to the side. Her display against Silver Strikers provided the platform for ZESCO to continue their strong campaign in Botswana and keep alive their hopes of claiming the regional title and a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
