MILAN, Italy — AC Milan made it two wins from two under new head coach Ruben Amorim as they defeated Venezia 2-0 at the San Siro on Friday night to go top of the early Serie A table.
Gonçalo Ramos scored his first goal for the club in the 69th minute before a late own goal from Redouane Halhal sealed a comfortable victory in front of more than 75,000 supporters.
The result followed Milan’s opening-day 2-1 success at Torino and leaves Amorim’s side with a maximum six points from their first two matches of the 2026/27 campaign.
Christian Pulisic was named in the squad for the first time since suffering a lower-leg injury at the World Cup but remained an unused substitute. Luka Modrić started in midfield as Amorim continued to shape his new-look side.
The first half proved a cautious affair. Venezia, newly promoted and organised under Giovanni Stroppa, defended deep and limited Milan’s clear chances. The hosts enjoyed the majority of possession but struggled to break down a compact defensive block before the interval.
After the break Milan increased the intensity. Yunus Musah struck the crossbar in the 55th minute, signalling a shift in momentum. Amorim responded by introducing Alexis Saelemaekers and Adrien Rabiot, changes that quickly paid dividends.
In the 69th minute Saelemaekers threaded a precise pass into the path of Ramos. The Portuguese striker, signed from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, composed himself and finished low into the far corner for a much-needed breakthrough.
Milan controlled the remainder of the contest. With two minutes remaining, substitute Ardon Jashari was released clear on goal. His shot was parried by goalkeeper Stanković, only for the ball to rebound off Halhal and into the net, completing a night of relief and satisfaction at the San Siro.
The victory marked Milan’s first home win of the season and continued an encouraging start under Amorim. Ramos will be particularly pleased to open his account, while the return of Pulisic to the matchday squad offers further attacking options in the weeks ahead.
Venezia remain without a point after two matches and face another difficult assignment against Frosinone next. Milan, meanwhile, sit alone at the summit of Serie A and will look to maintain their early momentum when they travel to face Juventus in the near future.
Amorim’s side have shown defensive solidity and growing attacking fluency in their opening fixtures. The challenge now is to sustain this level as the campaign intensifies.
