In an official statement, the confederation said its members raised serious concerns over a lack of due process and transparency, the short deadline given to approve the plan, the absence of review by FIFA’s governance bodies, and the need for private investment despite FIFA’s record World Cup profits.
CONCACAF has:
- Rejected the proposal
- Instructed its FIFA Council members to explore using FIFA’s existing financial reserves to increase FIFA Forward funding
- Called on FIFA to follow its proper governance procedures for any future proposals
The confederation stated: “Football’s future and its greatest assets must remain in the hands of our football family.”
