The Dutch giants confirmed the shocking decision ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, bringing an end to Van Persie’s short managerial spell at his boyhood club. The 42-year-old returned to Feyenoord as head coach in February 2025 and managed a total of 58 matches, winning 30 games during his tenure.
In an official statement released by the club, Feyenoord announced:
“Feyenoord will start the 2026-2027 season with a new head coach. The club would like to thank Robin van Persie for everything he gave during his time as head coach.”
Although Van Persie succeeded in leading Feyenoord to a Champions League qualification spot, the club ultimately finished 19 points behind Eredivisie champions Ajax, with inconsistent performances throughout the season reportedly influencing the decision.
Reports from the Netherlands indicate that Feyenoord’s new leadership team, including technical director Devy Rigaux and incoming general manager Robert Eenhoorn, carried out an internal review of the club’s performances before deciding to part ways with the former Netherlands international.
Van Persie’s managerial journey at Feyenoord began with promise after replacing Brian Priske in 2025. The former striker enjoyed a strong start and briefly revived hopes of a title challenge, but Feyenoord later struggled for consistency in both domestic and European competitions. The club also endured disappointing exits from cup competitions during the campaign.
Despite the dismissal, Van Persie remains one of Feyenoord’s greatest modern legends following his successful playing career at the club before spells with Arsenal and Manchester United.
Attention will now turn to who Feyenoord appoint as their next manager ahead of the new season, with several names already being linked to the vacant position.
