On the final day of the competition, Damola Hannah Ojo claimed a Silver medal, while Esther Kolawole secured Bronze, joining Christianah Ogunsanya on Nigeria’s medal table in what proved to be a remarkable outing for the country on the international wrestling stage.
Ojo Powers to Silver Medal Finish
Damola Hannah Ojo delivered a dominant performance throughout the tournament before settling for Silver in the final.
The Nigerian wrestler began her campaign with a commanding 10-0 superiority victory over Mongolia’s Tuvshinjargal Tarav, showcasing her technical brilliance and attacking strength.
Ojo continued her impressive run in the semifinals, defeating India’s Priya by 5-1 to book her place in the final.
However, in the gold medal bout, she came up against India’s Kajal Kajal, who proved too strong on the day, defeating the Nigerian wrestler 8-0 to deny Ojo the top prize.
Despite the final loss, Ojo’s performance remains one of Nigeria’s standout achievements at the Ranking Series event.
Kolawole started strongly with a dominant 10-0 victory over China’s Huan Yang before shocking the wrestling world by defeating Russia’s world number one Amina Tandelova 6-0 in a sensational performance.
The Nigerian wrestler came agonizingly close to reaching the final but narrowly lost her semifinal clash against North Korea’s Kim Ok-Ju by 5-4.
Her efforts were enough to earn Nigeria a Bronze medal and further underline her growing reputation on the global wrestling scene.
