The 40-year-old shot-stopper, famously known as “Memo” Ochoa, has now been part of Mexico’s World Cup squads in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026, achieving one of the greatest longevity feats in international football history.
Ochoa’s remarkable journey spans two decades, with the veteran goalkeeper continuing to defy age and expectations. From his early days as a young prospect in Germany 2006 to becoming one of the most recognizable goalkeepers in modern World Cup history, the Mexican legend remains an important figure for El Tri heading into the tournament on home soil.
Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre included Ochoa in his final 26-man squad for the competition, trusting the experience and leadership of the veteran ahead of a crucial tournament for the co-host nation.
Over the years, Ochoa has produced several unforgettable World Cup moments, especially his heroic performances against Brazil in 2014 and Germany in 2018, matches that elevated his global reputation as one of football’s greatest tournament goalkeepers.
Despite being 40 years old, Ochoa continues to inspire football fans across the world with his professionalism, consistency, and passion for the Mexican national team. His inclusion in the 2026 squad also places him among the few footballers ever to reach six FIFA World Cups.
For many football supporters, the FIFA World Cup simply does not feel complete without seeing Guillermo Ochoa wearing the famous green jersey of Mexico and producing spectacular saves on football’s biggest stage.
As Mexico prepares to host the world alongside the United States and Canada, Ochoa’s presence adds emotion, experience, and history to what could become the final international chapter of an extraordinary career.
