Sheyi Ojo Switch International Allegiance, Ready For Super Eagles Selection

Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo has announced that’s willing to follow Ibrox teammate Joe Aribo’s lead and make himself available for the Nigeria national team.

Aribo stormed onto the international scene with a debut goal in Nigeria’s 2-2 draw with Ukraine, with the Super Eagles’ boss Gernot Rohr saying he’s now a key part of their side [Daily Record].

After seeing the success of Joe Aribo at international level, former England U21 Ojo has seen how this can be a positive route for young English players of Nigerian descent.

Rangers winger Ojo is on-loan from Liverpool and has five goals and four assists in 15 games this season. “I have made it known that I am willing to switch allegiance to Nigeria,” said Sheyi Ojo [Scottish Sun].

“I will be glad if I am called up because just like Joe Aribo I also want to play for Nigeria at senior level."

“It’s up to the coaches to decide on picking up in the squad and in the meantime, all I have to do is to keep doing my best at Rangers and hope I get noticed.”

The decision to make himself available for Nigeria comes despite the powerful winger being part of the England U20 World Cup-winning squad.

With Gareth Southgate building an incredibly young and competitive England squad, Ojo may well find it a big challenge to get into the English side.

Playing at international level for any country is amongst the highest levels in football, and with his place in the Nigeria squad Joe Aribo is looking forward to the potential of facing Brazil and £200m Neymar [The Herald].

It’s a good thing for Rangers too – if Sheyi Ojo harbours ambitions of making it into the Nigeria squad he’ll have to play well for the Rangers to get there.
