Espanyol held by Deportivo as Eder Sarabia's first match ends in goalless draw

Barcelona — Espanyol were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Deportivo de La Coruña at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday, 7 November 2026, in their LaLiga Matchday 12 encounter.

The result denied new Espanyol manager Eder Sarabia a winning start in front of the home supporters, despite his team's encouraging attacking performance.

Espanyol dominated much of the first half and created several promising opportunities but were repeatedly denied by an inspired Deportivo goalkeeper, Leo Román.

Roberto Fernández had the first major opportunity in the 10th minute when his header was brilliantly saved by Román, who reacted quickly to keep the ball out near the bottom corner.

The Deportivo goalkeeper produced another excellent intervention in the 17th minute, stopping Alejandro Santiago's header that appeared destined for the top corner.

The hosts continued to apply pressure and nearly broke the deadlock through a counter-attacking move involving Cala, Pere Milla and Roberto Fernández. However, Deportivo defender Giacomo Quagliata produced an important clearance close to the goal line.

Deportivo also threatened occasionally, with Lorenzo Amatucci getting an opportunity that was stopped by Espanyol's defensive cover.

Both teams went into the interval with the score still goalless.

Deportivo manager Antonio Hidalgo made two changes at half-time, introducing Diego Villares and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in an attempt to improve his team's attacking threat.

The visitors became more organised after the break, making it increasingly difficult for Espanyol to find space in the final third.

Sarabia also introduced fresh attacking options, including Bryan Zaragoza, Gabriel Moscardo and Marcos Fernández, as Espanyol searched for a late winner.

The home side continued to push forward in the closing stages, but Deportivo maintained their defensive discipline.

Espanyol had one final opportunity when Roberto Fernández forced another save from Román in stoppage time, but the goalkeeper once again produced an excellent intervention to preserve his clean sheet.

The final whistle confirmed a goalless draw, with Deportivo leaving Barcelona with a valuable point.

Despite failing to secure victory, Espanyol showed encouraging signs under their new manager, although their inability to convert chances remained a major disappointment.

The result left Espanyol with 12 points from 12 matches, while Deportivo moved to 15 points.
