Abidjan — ASEC Mimosas returned to winning ways in the Ivorian Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory over FC San Pedro at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
The reigning champions produced a disciplined performance to secure their first league victory of the 2026/27 campaign in a Matchday 5 encounter.
ASEC made a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 14th minute through Guy Serge Gnahoré, whose right-footed effort from outside the penalty area gave the hosts an early advantage.
The Yellow and Blacks maintained control of the contest, using their possession effectively while limiting San Pedro's attacking opportunities.
ASEC went into the half-time break with a deserved 1-0 lead and continued to look dangerous after the restart.
Head coach Julien Chevalier introduced young forward Cédric Gobéhi at the beginning of the second half, and the substitution quickly paid dividends.
Gobéhi doubled ASEC's advantage in the 65th minute after connecting with a fine attacking move initiated by fellow academy graduate Bamba Souhalio.
The goal was particularly significant for the young forward as it marked his first senior-team goal for the club.
San Pedro attempted to respond by making attacking changes, but ASEC remained organised defensively and successfully protected their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.
The victory represents an important boost for ASEC following their disappointing elimination from the CAF Champions League at the hands of Morocco's MAS de Fès.
It also provides relief for Chevalier's side after a difficult start to their domestic campaign, which had produced one defeat and two draws from their opening three league matches.
ASEC moved to five points from four matches, with a game in hand, as they look to revive their title defence.
