Nigeria's Flamingos set up semi-final showdown with Brazil at U-17 Women's World Cup

Rabat — Nigeria's Flamingos will face Brazil in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup on Wednesday, 4 November, as they continue their quest for a historic appearance in the final.

The Nigerian youngsters secured their place in the last four with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Venezuela in Sunday's quarter-final encounter in Morocco.

Captain Azeezat Oduntan proved to be the difference, converting an 89th-minute penalty to send the Flamingos into the semi-finals after a closely contested encounter.

The victory marked another impressive achievement for coach Akeem Busari's side, who have recovered strongly from their opening 2-1 defeat to Poland.

Nigeria subsequently defeated Puerto Rico, defending champions North Korea and Mexico before overcoming Venezuela to reach the semi-finals.

However, Brazil will present another major challenge for the West Africans.

The South American side booked their place in the last four with a 2-1 comeback victory over China in their quarter-final match.

China took the lead through Wu Yichen in the 42nd minute, but Brazil responded immediately after the interval as Helena equalised in the 46th minute.

Helena then completed the turnaround with her second goal in the 88th minute to send Brazil through.

Wednesday's encounter will offer Nigeria an opportunity to reach the final of the competition for the first time in their history.

The Flamingos previously reached the semi-finals in 2022, when they finished third after defeating Germany in the bronze-medal match.

Nigeria will be counting on their attacking quality, defensive discipline and the leadership of captain Oduntan to overcome Brazil and keep their title ambitions alive.

Brazil, meanwhile, will be determined to continue their impressive campaign and secure a place in the final.
