Chicago struck early at Daikin Park before Chase Meidroth's three-run home run in the sixth inning put the game beyond Houston's reach. The White Sox will now face the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Division Series, beginning Saturday.
The White Sox scored four runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a difficult start from Houston pitcher Hunter Brown and defensive errors by the Astros.
Houston responded with home runs from Jeremy Peña, Cam Smith and José Altuve, reducing the deficit to 4–3.
Chicago, however, restored its three-run advantage in the sixth when Meidroth launched a home run to left-centre field against Bryan Abreu, giving the visitors a 7–3 lead.
The White Sox bullpen then shut down Houston for the remainder of the game to complete the sweep.
Series results
• Chicago White Sox: 6–3 Houston Astros — Game 1.
• Chicago White Sox: 7–3 Houston Astros — Game 2.
The result ends a 21-year wait for Chicago, who had not won a playoff series since sweeping Houston in the 2005 World Series. It is also the White Sox's first appearance in the AL Division Series since 2021.
The Astros, meanwhile, finish the season with an 81–83 record after reaching the postseason as American League West champions. Their defeat also extended their home playoff losing streak to nine games, dating back to 2023.
Chicago now turns its attention to the AL Division Series against Cleveland, with the opening game scheduled for Saturday.
