DR Congo prepare for Uganda double-header in Johannesburg

The Democratic Republic of the Congo have arrived in South Africa as they prepare for a two-match international friendly series against Uganda.

The Leopards will face the Cranes on 2 and 5 October 2026, with both matches scheduled to take place at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. The fixtures are part of the teams' preparations during the current international window.

DR Congo held their second training session in Pretoria on Wednesday, with 20 players taking part as head coach Sébastien Desabre continued preparations for the double-header.

The squad included experienced defender Chancel Mbemba, alongside Willy Kambwala, Noah Sadiki, Théo Bongonda, Samuel Essende and Afimico Pululu. Goalkeepers Matthieu Epolo and Dimitry Bertaud were also involved in the session.

Uganda had earlier confirmed the two friendlies as part of their schedule for the extended FIFA international window, which runs from 21 September to 6 October. The Cranes had also been involved in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign during the window.

The two encounters will give both teams an opportunity to assess players and fine-tune their squads ahead of their upcoming competitive commitments.

DR Congo enter the friendlies after securing victories over Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe in their opening two AFCON 2027 qualifying matches.

• First friendly: DR Congo vs Uganda — 2 October
• Second friendly: Uganda vs DR Congo — 5 October
• Venue: FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa
• Competition: International friendly

The two nations have previously met four times in recorded senior internationals, with each side winning twice.
