Wales come from behind to beat 10-man Norway in Nations League

Wales came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League Group A4 encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

Oscar Bobb gave Norway an early lead, but goals from Daniel James and Neco Williams turned the match around for Craig Bellamy’s side. Norway were also reduced to 10 men shortly after half-time following Torbjørn Heggem’s dismissal.

Bobb gives Norway early advantage

Norway made the brighter start and opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Martin Ødegaard supplied the decisive pass for Bobb, who combined with his captain before finding the net to put the visitors 1-0 ahead. The assist was Ødegaard’s third of the Nations League campaign.

Wales responded strongly and levelled in the 38th minute. Daniel James finished to bring the hosts back into the contest before half-time.

Heggem sees red as Wales take control

Norway’s task became considerably more difficult immediately after the interval.

Heggem was sent off in the 46th minute after a foul on James, leaving Norway with 10 players for the remainder of the match.

Wales took advantage of the numerical advantage and went ahead just two minutes later.

Neco Williams stepped up to take the resulting free-kick and produced a precise finish to complete the turnaround and put Wales 2-1 ahead.

Norway unable to find an equaliser

Norway attempted to respond despite being a player down, but Wales defended their advantage during the closing stages.

Erling Haaland, who started for Norway, was unable to make a decisive impact as Wales held on for three points.

The defeat was Norway’s second consecutive loss, while Wales secured their first victory in the Nations League’s top tier.

Full-time result

• Wales: 2 – Daniel James 38', Neco Williams 48'

• Norway: 1 – Oscar Bobb 11'

Norway will now look to respond in their next Nations League fixture after a match in which their early advantage disappeared following Heggem’s dismissal.
