Viktor Gyökeres put Sweden ahead early in the second half, but Kerim Alajbegović's late equaliser denied Graham Potter's side victory.
Sweden take control after early pressure
Bosnia and Herzegovina started energetically in front of their home supporters, but Sweden gradually took control of the contest after the opening 10 minutes.
The visitors created the first major breakthrough in the 17th minute when Alexander Bernhardsson crossed for Gyökeres, who brought the ball down and fired into the net.
However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR review after the striker was judged to have made contact with the ball with his hand during the build-up.
Sweden suffered an injury setback before half-time when Carl Starfelt was forced off with a thigh injury and was replaced by Eric Smith.
Bosnia appeared to have scored shortly before the interval through Edin Džeko, but the effort was also ruled out after the ball had already gone out of play before the cross.
Gyökeres puts Sweden ahead
Sweden continued to control possession and territory after the restart and finally found the breakthrough in the 61st minute.
Bernhardsson won possession high up the pitch before playing Gyökeres through on goal. The striker made no mistake, smashing the ball into the roof of the net to give Sweden a 1-0 lead.
Džeko was substituted shortly afterwards to a standing ovation from the packed Zenica crowd, bringing his final appearance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to an emotional conclusion. The 40-year-old striker finished his international career with 152 appearances.
Alajbegović rescues a point
Sweden looked set to hold on for another victory, but Bosnia and Herzegovina found an equaliser in the 80th minute.
A free-kick was delivered into the Swedish penalty area and, after the visitors cleared the initial delivery, the ball fell to Alajbegović outside the box.
The Bosnia forward sent a cross towards the far post that evaded everyone and found its way into the net, leaving goalkeeper Viktor Johansson unable to keep it out.
Sweden could not find a late winner and had to settle for a point.
Sweden remain top of Group B4
The draw leaves Sweden top of Nations League Group B4 with seven points from three matches, two points ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina and three clear of Poland.
Sweden's result came despite a difficult build-up to the match, with several players unavailable because of illness and Alexander Isak already having left the squad with a minor injury.
Sweden will conclude their current international window away to Romania on Monday, 5 October.
