Super Sand Eagles to face Senegal in October double-header ahead of Ghana clash

Nigeria’s senior men’s beach soccer national team, the Super Sand Eagles, will face reigning African champions Senegal in a two-match international friendly series as part of their preparations for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The proposed double-header will take place at the Murtala Muhammed Square Beach Soccer Arena in Kaduna, giving Nigeria an opportunity to test their squad against one of the continent’s leading beach soccer nations ahead of their crucial qualification tie against Ghana.

The first friendly is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, with the return match set for Monday, October 5. Both matches are listed to kick off at 4:00 p.m.

The fixtures form part of Nigeria’s preparations for a two-legged second-round BSAFCON qualifying tie against Ghana’s Black Sharks. CAF confirmed that the first legs of the second-round qualifiers will be played between October 9 and 11, with the return legs scheduled for October 16–18.

The winner of the Nigeria-Ghana tie will secure a place at the eight-team 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations finals in Senegal.

Senegal have already qualified automatically as hosts and reigning champions. The Teranga Lions have won a record five Beach Soccer AFCON titles, including the last five editions in 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Nigeria are two-time African champions, having won the continental title in 2007 and 2009. The Super Sand Eagles, however, missed the 2024 edition after being eliminated by Mauritania in the qualifiers.

The meetings with Senegal will therefore provide valuable competitive preparation for Nigeria before the team turns its attention to the decisive Ghana qualifiers.

The 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in Senegal from November 7 to 15, with the tournament also serving as part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

With the Ghana tie approaching, the Senegal friendlies will give the technical crew an opportunity to assess the squad, work on tactical approaches and sharpen the team ahead of the qualification battle.
