Shanghai Masters attracts the world's biggest names
The 2026 tournament is scheduled to feature several of the biggest names in men's tennis, including Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime and defending champion Valentin Vacherot.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, however, has withdrawn from the tournament because of a lingering knee injury. His absence has reshaped the title race and leaves Zverev among the leading contenders.
Vacherot returns to Shanghai as defending champion after producing one of the biggest surprises in Masters 1000 history last year. The Monegasque defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the 2025 final to become the lowest-ranked player ever to win a Masters 1000 title.
A major opportunity in the Asian swing
The Shanghai Masters is one of the most important tournaments of the ATP season, with the champion collecting 1,000 ranking points.
The 96-player singles draw will see the 32 seeded players receive first-round byes, while qualifying is scheduled for 5 and 6 October before the main draw begins on 7 October.
With more than $9.4m available across singles and doubles, the tournament represents both a major financial opportunity and a crucial chance for players to strengthen their positions in the closing stages of the 2026 ATP season.
