Mohammed Bajaber agrees to join Nairobi United ahead of FKF Premier League opener

Nairobi, Kenya — Mohammed Bajaber has reportedly agreed to join Nairobi United, with head coach Patrick Aussems’ ambitious project understood to have played a key role in convincing the Harambee Stars attacker to return to Kenyan football.

The move would see the 23-year-old forward make his return to the FKF Premier League after a difficult spell in Tanzania with Simba SC, where recurring injury problems limited his involvement.

Bajaber is reportedly expected to be available immediately and could make his Nairobi United debut when the club opens its 2026/27 FKF Premier League campaign against KCB on Friday.

Aussems project helps convince Bajaber

Nairobi United have emerged as one of the ambitious clubs in Kenyan football, and the appointment of Belgian coach Patrick Aussems has added another dimension to their plans.

Aussems was appointed Nairobi United head coach in July after previously working with AFC Leopards, taking over from Godfrey Oduor.

The club's ambitions are believed to have been an important factor in Bajaber's decision to return to Kenya.

Nairobi United had already been linked with the attacker earlier in 2026 when his future at Simba was uncertain. Reports at the time indicated that both Nairobi United and Kenya Police were interested in bringing him back to the Kenyan top flight.

From Kenya Police to Simba

Bajaber's career has developed rapidly over the past two years.

The attacker joined Kenya Police FC from Nairobi City Stars in January 2025 and played an important role as the Law Enforcers secured their maiden league title. His performances also helped him establish himself in the Harambee Stars setup.

He subsequently moved to Simba SC in Tanzania, but his progress was disrupted by recurring injuries.

In February, Simba coach Steve Barker confirmed that Bajaber remained part of his plans and had returned to full training following another injury setback.

However, the latest development now points towards a return to Kenyan football.

Bajaber brings international experience

Bajaber has also become part of Benni McCarthy's Kenya national-team plans.

CAF included the forward in Kenya's squad for the latest 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches, alongside established attackers such as Michael Olunga and Micah Obiero. At the time of the selection, CAF listed Bajaber as unattached.

His international experience could therefore prove valuable to a Nairobi United side looking to compete at the top end of Kenyan football.

Nairobi United face KCB in season opener

The reported move comes just before Nairobi United's opening fixture of the new FKF Premier League campaign.

Nairobi United will face KCB at Police Sacco Stadium on Friday, 9 October, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm Kenyan time. The fixture will officially launch the 2026/27 league season after the start of the campaign was delayed by administrative and legal disputes.

If his registration is completed in time, Bajaber could make his return to the Kenyan top flight in one of the opening weekend's headline fixtures.

A statement signing for Nairobi United

Bringing Bajaber back would represent a significant addition for Nairobi United, particularly given his previous success in the Kenyan league and his status as a current Harambee Stars international.

For Bajaber, the move offers an opportunity to restart his career after an injury-interrupted spell at Simba.

With Aussems looking to build a competitive side capable of challenging Kenya's established clubs, Bajaber's reported arrival could become one of Nairobi United's most significant moves ahead of the new campaign.
