Katsina, Nigeria — Katsina United produced an entertaining performance to defeat Enyimba 4-2 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Friday, ending the visitors’ three-match unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The Matchday Eight encounter saw the hosts establish a commanding first-half lead before Enyimba fought back with two second-half goals. However, Katsina United found the decisive response to claim all three points.
Own goal and Mubarak Sani give Katsina early control
Katsina United made a fast start, taking the lead in the sixth minute when an error involving Enyimba defender Emeka Onyema and goalkeeper Dede Dare resulted in an own goal.
The hosts doubled their advantage six minutes later, with midfielder Mubarak Sani finding the net in the 12th minute.
The two early goals gave the Chanji Boys a comfortable cushion, which they maintained until half-time.
Luis Dadong extends the advantage
Katsina United continued their positive display after the restart, and Luis Dadong made it 3-0 in the 58th minute with a clinical finish.
Enyimba responded through Chukwuemeka Michael in the 67th minute before Chidera Egbe struck in the 75th minute, reducing the deficit to 3-2 and raising hopes of a remarkable comeback.
Umar Rabi’u seals the victory
With Enyimba pushing for an equaliser, Katsina United restored their two-goal advantage in the 82nd minute.
Umar Rabi’u produced an impressive individual effort to score the fourth goal, ensuring the hosts finished the contest as 4-2 winners.
The late strike ended Enyimba’s hopes of rescuing a point and confirmed a valuable home victory for Katsina United.
What the result means
The victory moved Katsina United to sixth place with 12 points from eight matches, strengthening their position in the NPFL standings.
For Enyimba, the defeat ended a three-match unbeaten run and left the Aba-based club with seven points from eight games, keeping them in 17th place.
Katsina United will next face Kano Pillars away from home on 18 October as they look to build on their latest result.
