Baltimore, United States — The Baltimore Ravens have suffered a major setback ahead of their NFL Week 5 meeting with the Atlanta Falcons, with quarterback Lamar Jackson ruled out because of a left ankle injury.
Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed on Friday that the two-time NFL Most Valuable Player would miss Sunday's encounter after failing to participate in practice throughout the week.
Jackson sustained the injury during Baltimore's 24–18 victory over the Tennessee Titans last weekend and did not return for the second half.
Tyler Huntley set to start for Baltimore
With Jackson unavailable, Tyler Huntley will take over as Baltimore's starting quarterback against Atlanta.
The 28-year-old is familiar with the Ravens' system, having previously played for the franchise between 2020 and 2023 before returning in 2025 following a season with the Miami Dolphins.
Huntley completed eight of nine passes for 63 yards after replacing Jackson against Tennessee, helping Baltimore secure the victory.
Minter expressed confidence in the backup quarterback, saying the coaching staff had considerable faith in his ability to perform well.
Jackson's return date remains uncertain
Jackson has made an impressive start to the 2026 season, recording 967 passing yards and six passing touchdowns, alongside 144 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
His absence is therefore a significant blow to Baltimore's offence as the team attempts to improve its 3–1 record.
Minter has not provided a definitive timetable for Jackson's return, although he indicated that the quarterback is working hard to recover.
The Ravens will continue to assess the injury before determining whether Jackson can return for their subsequent fixture against the Cleveland Browns.
Ravens face important test against Falcons
Baltimore travel to Atlanta to face a Falcons side that enters the contest with a 2–2 record after an impressive victory over the New Orleans Saints.
The Ravens will need Huntley to deliver a composed performance against Atlanta's defence if they are to maintain their momentum without their star quarterback.
Jackson's absence will place greater responsibility on the team's supporting cast, with Baltimore seeking another victory while awaiting the return of their franchise leader.
