India and Pakistan Set for Blockbuster Asian Games Cricket Final

NISSHIN, Japan — Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will meet in the men’s cricket final of the 2026 Asian Games on Saturday, with gold on the line in a high-stakes T20 showdown.

The match will be played at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, with a scheduled start of 1:30pm local time (04:30 GMT).

India enter the final as defending champions after claiming gold at Hangzhou 2023. Pakistan, who won bronze at Guangzhou 2010, are seeking their first Asian Games cricket title.

Both teams received byes into the quarter-finals as seeded sides. Rain washed out India’s quarter-final against Afghanistan and Pakistan’s tie with Hong Kong, allowing both to progress on seeding. India then produced a dominant semi-final display, thrashing Sri Lanka by 124 runs after bowling them out for 45. Pakistan advanced with a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in a rain-reduced 13-over contest.

The fixture renews one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries. India hold a clear edge in T20 internationals, winning 13 of the 17 completed matches between the sides, with Pakistan victorious on three occasions and one game tied. Their most recent meeting came at the T20 World Cup in February, when India won by 61 runs.

Should rain force the abandonment of Saturday’s final, the gold medal will be shared — a change from the ranking-based decision used when India’s Hangzhou final against Afghanistan was washed out.

India’s squad is captained by Shreyas Iyer and features young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi alongside experienced campaigners including Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Pakistan, led by Sahibzada Farhan, will look to players such as Abdul Samad and left-arm spinner Sufyan Moqim to make an impact.

The contest offers both nations a chance to add to their Asian Games medal tallies, with cricket making its fourth appearance at the multi-sport event.
