CAIRO, Egypt — The Egypt national team has resumed preparations for their international friendly against South Africa after returning from Juba.
The Pharaohs held a training session at the Cairo International Stadium with 22 players involved as they build towards the clash scheduled for Sunday, 4 October.
Egypt completed their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over South Sudan in Juba. The result followed a goalless draw against Angola in their first group match and leaves Hossam Hassan’s side in a strong position in the qualifying standings.
Coach Hossam Hassan has now shifted focus to the friendly against Bafana Bafana, who are under the guidance of returning coach Pitso Mosimane. The match will take place at the Cairo International Stadium with kick-off set for 21:00 local time.
One notable absentee is captain Mohamed Salah. The Trabzonspor forward has been rested for the current international window after an agreement with the technical staff. Salah did not feature in the South Sudan qualifier and will also miss the South Africa fixture.
The friendly offers both teams a valuable competitive test. For Egypt, it provides a final opportunity to assess options before the next phase of AFCON qualifying. For South Africa, it marks another early examination under Mosimane following their positive start to the qualifying campaign.
Egypt’s squad has been working through recovery and tactical sessions since arriving back in the capital. The coaching staff will continue to monitor fitness levels, including that of players who carried minor knocks from the trip to South Sudan.
The fixture renews a familiar rivalry between the two African football powerhouses and is expected to attract significant interest on both sides of the continent.
