The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Friday that Torres had been released from the squad to prioritise his recovery after continuing to experience discomfort in his ankle. The federation said its medical staff had remained in contact with Paris Saint-Germain throughout the process.
Espí has been promoted from the Spain Under-21 squad to replace Torres and will join Luis de la Fuente's senior team for the remaining Nations League fixtures against Czechia and Croatia.
The 21-year-old earned the call-up after producing an outstanding performance for Spain Under-21s in their 13-0 victory over San Marino on Thursday. Espí scored five goals and provided two assists in the emphatic win.
The forward has been making progress at Real Madrid and his latest international recognition comes after a prolific display at Under-21 level.
Torres, meanwhile, had been involved in Spain's opening Nations League fixtures during the international window. The Paris Saint-Germain forward started the 3-2 victory over England at Wembley and was an unused substitute in Spain's subsequent 4-1 win over Croatia.
Spain will host Czechia in Oviedo on Saturday, 3 October, before travelling to Split to face Croatia on Tuesday, 6 October.
Espí's inclusion gives him the opportunity to make his senior international debut as Spain continue their 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign.
