Argentina thrash Burkina Faso 7-0 in dominant friendly victory

Argentina produced a commanding performance to defeat Burkina Faso 7-0 in an international friendly at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on Saturday, 3 October 2026.

Lionel Scaloni’s side scored five times before half-time before adding two more goals after the break to complete a comprehensive victory.

Lautaro opens the scoring

Argentina needed only four minutes to take the lead.

Lautaro Martínez initially saw his penalty saved by Burkina Faso goalkeeper Razack Guira, but the striker reacted quickest to the rebound to put the hosts ahead.

Four minutes later, Argentina doubled their advantage when Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo turned the ball into his own net.

Gianluca Prestianni then made it 3-0 in the 12th minute, further underlining Argentina’s dominance.

Argentina run riot before half-time

Nicolás Paz added a fourth goal in the 35th minute after being played through by Alexis Mac Allister.

Julián Álvarez made it 5-0 just a minute later, finishing from close range after another dangerous Argentina attack involving Prestianni.

Argentina went into the interval with a five-goal advantage.

Mastantuono scores first Argentina goal

Scaloni made several changes during the second half, but Argentina continued to control proceedings.

Franco Mastantuono scored in the 57th minute to make it 6-0, registering his first goal for the senior Argentina national team.

Burkina Faso goalkeeper Guira made several saves to prevent the deficit from becoming even larger, while Emiliano Martínez also made a save from Papus Ouattara as the visitors searched for a consolation goal.

Simeone completes the rout

Giuliano Simeone completed the scoring in the third minute of added time, heading home from close range after being set up by Valentín Barco.

Argentina finished the match with a 7-0 victory, maintaining their impressive form during the international window.

Lionel Messi was absent from the squad for the match, with Argentina preparing for his planned farewell international against Benin at the Monumental on 6 October.
