World Record Holder Masai Russell Headlines Women’s 100m Hurdles at Brussels Diamond League Final

BRUSSELS, Belgium — Newly crowned world record holder Masai Russell will lead a star-studded field in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the 2026 Diamond League Final on Saturday, 5 September.

The race forms part of the second day of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme at the King Baudouin Stadium, with the hurdles final scheduled for approximately 21:20 CEST.

Confirmed startlist:

  • 🇺🇸 Masai Russell
  • 🇳🇬 Tobi Amusan
  • 🇳🇱 Nadine Visser
  • 🇧🇸 Devynne Charlton
  • 🇵🇱 Pia Skrzyszowska
  • 🇺🇸 Alaysha Johnson
  • 🇯🇲 Megan Simmonds
  • 🇧🇪 Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck

Russell arrives in Brussels as the clear favourite after a sensational season. The American Olympic champion shattered the world record in Zurich last week, clocking an extraordinary 12.09 to take three hundredths of a second off the previous mark of 12.12 set by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan in 2022. Russell has remained undefeated across the Diamond League circuit this year and sits top of the qualifying standings with a commanding points lead.

Amusan, the former world record holder and three-time Diamond League champion, finished second behind Russell in Zurich with a season’s best of 12.23. The Nigerian remains one of the most consistent performers in the event and will be determined to challenge for the Diamond Trophy once again on the big stage.

European champion Nadine Visser of the Netherlands completed the Zurich podium and continues to show strong form. Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, American Alaysha Johnson and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds all bring proven championship pedigree to the final. Belgian athlete Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck has been handed a home wild card.

The Brussels final is a winner-takes-all contest for the prestigious Diamond Trophy, with no carry-over of regular-season points. A victory here would cap an extraordinary campaign for Russell, who has already added the world record to her Olympic gold medal from Paris 2024.

For Amusan and the rest of the field, the race offers a final opportunity to make a statement before the World Athletics Ultimate Championship later in September. With the new world record holder in the blocks and several sub-12.40 athletes lining up alongside her, the women’s 100m hurdles is expected to be one of the highlights of the Diamond League Final weekend.
