Spanish outlet Fichajes, cited by Foot Africa, said the hierarchy has begun evaluating the Italian coach following a difficult opening run. Tottenham spent around £380 million on new signings in the summer, including a double deal from Manchester City for Sávio and Marmoush.
Marmoush joined on a season-long loan in August with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer. Reports put that obligation at about £50 million plus add-ons, taking Tottenham’s overall summer commitments past £380 million.
On the pitch the return has been slow. Official club figures show Marmoush without a Premier League goal in his first four league appearances, though he scored twice in a pre-season friendly. Tottenham have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Liverpool and lost 3–2 at home to Aston Villa.
Reports claim De Zerbi is contracted until 2031 with no sporting break clause, making any dismissal costly. The club is said to be weighing that financial hit against the risk of staying with a manager whose expansive style has yet to click with a heavily changed squad.
Eddie Howe has been linked as a possible successor after leaving Newcastle United. Howe previously tried to sign Marmoush for Newcastle. A change of coach could, in theory, give the Egypt international a system better suited to his movement as a centre-forward or wide attacker.
That remains speculative. Other reports have suggested Tottenham intend to stick with De Zerbi for now. What is clear is the scale of the gamble: a record outlay, a loan-plus-obligation for a high-wage forward, and a start that has already dropped Spurs towards the wrong end of the table.
Marmoush arrived seeking regular football after limited minutes at City. Whether he thrives at Tottenham may depend as much on who occupies the dugout as on his own finishing. The board’s next decision will shape both the manager’s future and the Egyptian’s first season in north London.
